Equipped - The life of a follower is marked by action not idleness.
Pastoral Care:
Spend a few moments talking with the students about what is going on in their life. At home, at school, in sports, etc. How can you step in/what can you pray for?
Listen to what they say, empathize, try not to solve problems unless they ask for a solution
Learning Together:
What stuck out to you tonight?
Have someone read Matthew 5:14-16 - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
What is Jesus saying in this verse?
Why is it important to do good works?
Would you consider yourself a busybody in life?
What about in your faith?
Have someone read Ephesians 2:8-10 - For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”
This is for Leaders to talk through with the students. Make is digestible to your group based on their age and demographic makeup.
We are saved by grace, not through works. However, Paul says we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works. And, he has prepared these works for us to walk in them. If we live our lives as busybodies, we are living in disobedience to the one who created us.
How can you start walking in and doing good works in your life?
Accountability:
Last week we learned that God helps us stand firm even when the world is crazy.
Did anything crazy happen this week? - Did you stand firm? - Why?
Spend a little time checking in with the students about this last week. If they discussed anything last week that involved action or decisions check in on those things.
Ask about any situations you are aware of and how you might be able to help.
Accountability isn’t a time to talk through what they should and shouldn’t do it is a time to help them be authentic followers. If they said they would do something over the last week, ask if they did. If they didn’t just ask why not. Grace is key to discipleship.
