Radiant :: Session 1 - Radiance

Start by having a student read Psalms 34:5

5 Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.

Now have another student read Exodus 34:29
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.

You have one more scripture reading left :) Have one more student read Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Create a discussion led by these questions:

  • Can anyone remember the definition of Radiant that Loren shared?

    • Leader Notes: To reflect God’s glory

  • What is significant about Moses not realizing his face was glowing when he came off of the mountain?

    • Leader Notes: Our radiance is not about us, its about Christ, its not anything that Moses did to create this radiance—it was because of God and the fact that Moses’ full attention was on God that the radiance happened

  • How can we often use selfish motives and desires in our lives to “appear” radiant, but really its just an outward act and not an inward change?

    • Acting like a Christian only at church or around certain people, making posts to appear radiant or Christ-like on social media but our motives are just to get likes and attention, doing the right thing to feel good about yourself, comparing yourself to others and thinking you are more holy because you don’t struggle with the sins they struggle with

  • When it comes to the 3 C’s that help us in learning to better reflect the radiance of Christ in our lives, which do you struggle with the most and why?

    • Clarity: seeking to understand Christ and how to live like Christ through our study of scripture

    • Counsel: trusting an older Christian example in your life when it comes to asking for advice, wisdom, guidance, and prayer

    • Community: surrounding yourself with other Christians in your daily life who can encourage you and support you in living out your faith, but can also speak truth to you when they see you struggling to stay focused.

  • Would anyone like to share any of the hindrances or sins that they wrote on their mirror that they feel are currently holding you back from authentically reflecting the radiance of Christ?

  • Was there anything else that really stood out to you from tonight’s session?

PRAY

We will know we have hit our target if:

-Ladies would have a deeper understanding of what it means to be radiant.

-Ladies would remember and apply the three c's: Clarity, Counsel, and Community.

-Some walls are broken down and the ladies get a little more honest with one another about who they are, and what they struggle with.
