DUPED Wk2: Don’t Get Duped into Downplaying Yourself
Counterfeits for full life are as sneaky and as rampant as the best AI-generated media. It gets harder and harder to tell what's real and what's fake at a glance. This four-week series invites students to sharpen their discernment skills when it comes to embracing full life. Dupes are everywhere. We find ourselves chasing fake glory, fake religion, fake love, and fake fulfillment. Jesus reminds us of four truths: we are made in God’s image, a humble posture is better than haughty performance, God actually loves us, and we were made to really live.

DISCUSS THIS:
1. In your own words, how would you explain the difference between being content and being complacent? Why do you think people often mix them up?2. Jonah had a great life serving God until God asked him to step out of his comfort zone. Why is it so easy for us to get comfortable or "autopilot" in our faith when things are going well?
3. Jonah ran away because he didn’t want to go to Nineveh, while Paul was willing to get beaten and jailed to share God’s love. What makes it so hard for us to do what God asks when it involves difficult people or uncomfortable situations?
4. Read Philippians 4:11–13. Paul says he learned to be content whether he was well-fed or hungry, in jail or free. What is the secret to having peace and joy even when our daily circumstances suck?
5. The message mentioned that complacency happens when we love the gifts God gives us more than the Giver Himself. What are some good gifts in a student's life (e.g., sports, friendships, grades, comfort) that can accidentally become more important to us than God?
6. Look at Jonah's reaction in Jonah 4:2–3 versus Paul's attitude in Philippians 4. How can you tell if your heart is slipping into self-centered complacency versus standing strong in Christ-centered contentment?
7. What is one area of your life right now where you feel tempted to stay comfortable instead of following where God might be leading you? How can this group pray for you this week?
Pray.
