Heath Explained the Fruits of the Spirit tonight.
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
For small group tonight: Have an open ended conversation about the fruits of the spirit. Below is each fruit as well as a verse you can use to expand the conversation as it unfolds. Let the students drive the conversation. Have them come up with a few of the fruits they find they struggle with the most.
LOVE:
1 John 4:9-10 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
JOY:
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
PEACE:
Philippians 4: 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
PATIENCE:
Luke 8:15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.
KINDNESS:
Proverbs 21:21 Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.
GOODNESS:
Romans 15:14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.
FAITHFULNESS:
Proverbs 3:3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.
GENTLENESS:
Psalm 18:35 You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great.
SELF-CONTROL:
Proverbs 25:8 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
CIRCLING BACK:
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
This is before the fruits of the spirit in the book of Galatians. It lays out exactly where we find the water we need for the tree that we are, so we can produce the fruits.
The PLAN:
Finish by coming up with a simple next step for how the students will walk with the spirit specifically related to the Fruits you talked about as a group.
PRAY :)
We will know we have hit our target if:
-Students have an understanding of what each fruits purpose is and how to identify them.
-Each student leaves walking with the Spirit.
